The 26th Thailand International Motor Expo 2009 saw orders of more than 25,000 cars and drew in more than 1.5 million visitors. The two-week car expo this year raised the number of visitors by 11.5% when compared to last year. A total of 25,220 cars were reserved–the highest in the 26 years of the expo. An organizer of the event said the higher success of the expo this year reflected growth in purchasing power as well as recovery of the auto industry. The expo had a variety of promotions with car leasing tents offering lower down payments. The car brands with the highest reservation rate are Toyota, with 7,230 units followed by 4,239 of Honda and Izuzu with 2,539. About 29 billion THB has been spent by consumers on cars and accessories, both first and second hand items. The expo was attended by 32 car brands from 2-13 December 2009 in Muang Thong Thani.
