Surely Krispy Kreme’s publicity department generated all that chatter about doughnuts on Twitter and Facebook, right?
Apparently not: We mentioned the buzz to Ausanee Mahagitsiri, chief executive of the local franchise, KDN, and she didn’t seem to know what we were talking about.
“Oh, really?” she said, clearly surprised that there’d been so many tweets about her sweets.
We can only assume that Ausanee had her head buried in spreadsheets as KDN plots the chain’s further expansion beyond Siam Paragon and Central Lat Phrao.
The factory that makes the doughnuts reckons it can fill tummies at four different outlets, and that’s what KDN wants to have by the end of this year.
Deeper in the future there’ll be a Krispy Kreme on every corner, next to the 7-Eleven. We’re kidding, but expect an outlet in most provinces as factory capacity keeps pace with demand.
And Ausanee believes Bangkok’s appetite for sugary dough will be far from sated even with four branches. “A friend of mine bought two boxes on to the Skytrain when it was packed, and by the time she got to her station there was only one box left!”
